Computer Space:

Computer Space, (designed by Nolan Bushnell whom later founded Atari, Inc.) was the first commercially made video arcade game. The cabinet was molded in fiberglass looking similar to the bubbling goo in lava lamps in various colors including gold, blue and red. Computer Space was built into two different versions; a single player game and a two-player version that incorporated the first use of a joystick. Although a landmark in video gaming, the game never really caught on. Bill Nutting commented on the lack of enthusiasm, "We blew the coin-op industry's mind.

Website designer. As a professional website designer, my design focus is to be a w3c Website Designer. Building with state of the art w3c compliant coding. As a result building and designing my own website to sell my art work, almost every page (after a couple of years trying to figure out why it did not) went to the #1 position in google. So I then in turn rebuilt websites for people I know who have websites. They too went to #1 in google search results. This may be good enough for most people, but not good enough for me. I then began a quest to learn to design the 'perfect code'. Spending most of my time learning how to do this at the w3c .
This website may not look top of the line but it has to do more with code (under the surface) than looks, though this can now be my priority, and will improve because of it.
What is xhtml1.1? And why as a website designer am I using it here? html is a language, as is xhtml1.1 but it allows a fraction of the words or commands that html allows. So it's considerably more difficult to design with. Like writing a poem but instead of being allowed a vocabulary of a million words, your only allowed 500, but you still want to get your message out there, and do so beautifully. As an example of what cant be seen, this site uses no tables, no img tags other than in the css file, no fonts or colors in the xhtml1.1, all style is done in the cascading style sheets (css).
The future of webdesign is likely to be xhtml1.1 with all the style and layout done in the CSS. Do I recommend this to my clients? I haven't in the past but am starting to now. I've used xhtml1.1 here because it's hard, like the changing style sheets and voice on the page links, creating forms and more, took a lot to learn to do within very strict limitations, so designing your website with more freedom to be creative, I can do better work for you. Also, more browsers are supporting style sheets. I design to use what holds up well on multiple platforms for my clients sites. But I do design the html and xhtml to make upgrading to full use of style sheets easy, should the day ever arrive when browsers and operating systems fully support the World Wide Web Consortium recommended standards. My focus in webdesign for my clients is for Internet explorer browsers, this is because over 90% of those online are using it, but my intention is beyond Internet Explorer for windows.
The art of a Website Designer, my goal is to build Web sites for maximum accessibility not just for #1 listings, but multiple browser compatibility and accessibility for those with limitations such as the visually impaired who use devices to read out loud the text on your pages, or limited mobility so they may navigate your website too.
Now, while I build with search optimization a high priority, I don't use programs to create your website. As a professional web designer, I hand type every line and every character that designs your website using Notepad. The reason for this is simple, instead of copying what programs offer, I learned the language, so I can say what I want to say, and am not limited to what the programs are set up to offer. And besides, just like if someone were to come to this site and try and steal the codes, it wont do them as much good as learning them. Because if you dont actually know what your doing- how can you fix a problem when you encounter one? That isn't very good for your clients. For this reason also, this site is a test site. The testing is for xhtml1.1 and different versions of CSS. The goal here is to create pages that load in Internet Explorer (95% of my visitors), Amaya, Opera, Mozilla Firebird, Netscape and Mac-IE without having to load seperate stylesheets or pages. Even when (if) this objective is reached, new testing will generally be conducted here at any given time. Because of things like, the results seen in searchs, can not be done offline, testing is done here, not on the sites I build for others. I am in quest of creating the perfect codes, and combining them with over 20 years experience as a professional artist. A quick word on prices. Simple logic, yes you can find a car for $50.00, or $500.00 or $5,000.00 or $50,000.00. Now, which one do you really want? No less with a website is it? You can find free templates, or $50.00 ones, and they may even look really nice but what's under the hood? That is the part I both build and fix for people. And at times when I surf the net and look at whats under the hood on the majority of web pages I go to... Honestly folks, I very rairly come accross error free pages, and about 50% I can tell at a glance cause fatal errors. They load, yes, due to the error handling programs in your browser- making yours and your vistiors browser work overtime- So, do you really honestly want a free website or a $50.00 one? What happens if and when google starts giving higher ranking for error free pages? Do you want to be left in the dust? Or ahead of your competition? I wont just build or fix your site, I show you whats wrong with it, and you wont have to take my word for it, I let someone else prove it to you and it only takes a few seconds. I do give discounts to the following types of websites. Those that are hosted at Blue Owl Hosting and those that promote enviornmentally friendly products or services. As a Universal Website designer, my focus is on building and designing websites can be accessed by not only those who are visually impaired but more. According to the w3c, XHTML basic content can be accessed by desktop computers, TVs, PDAs, pagers, mobile phones and more. I have yet to acheave this objective on this site but I am designing my websites with these goals in mind. The intent is to make attractive Professional multimedia webdesigns that are Universally accessible to the largest audience. I strive to learn, use and create the best and cleanest codes and programs in webdesign. Some of the codes used are experimental (tested here not on your site). Past months problems of multiple listings has been fixed and while some still show, in the google database, they are slowly fading away. On that note too, this site is experimental, and at times may not validate or comply with AAA accessibility standards, or cellphone accessable, but it is and will likely remain in a constant state of evolution towards that destination. Thus also why in the terms of use, access and use of this site, means you agree to do so at your own risk. But from what I see every day on the Internet, this site is amoung the most advanced Recommendations: If you already have a business, you'll want to match the site design equally with your business. If you have a larger business- you'll want your designer to design a larger site with high quality graphics and more features. If this is your first website and your a small business, (most of my customers are) then as your designer, I generally make these recommendations. Start small. Don't sell the farm to pay for getting your site online. Get your Internet presence established. Then let the income from your site pay for it's own expansion and upgrades. Your success online is my success as your webdesigner. Just as this site is still progressing, the other sites I've build are also. Your investing in your product and services is still the most important part of your website. With you focusing on growing you business, while I focus on growing your website. Once the main body of the website is up (the focus being on content and basic style, I wait to see where it is listed in the searchs and fine tune it for high listing. I specialize in designing the HTML, XHTML, CSS, meta tags, PHP, forms, page and site layout and making all these work together to design you a site that gets you high listings in your choice of search terms. What I need from you, is what you want your customers to read and see. Your website (what I build and design) is simply the media that allows it to be seen and read all over the world. While the focus is on function, once this is obtained in the search results and usability of the site, the next stage then becomes fine tuning the appearance. Designing for looks alone may be the objective of other web designers. But here, it's function before fashion, though both are important. But what good is a beautiful site that cant be found, freezes up you visitors computers, or cannot be accessed by larger audiences? My objective and focus is to get your site accessible first, then focus on appearances, while you focus on what it is you have to offer the public (your business). The codes used, such as xhtml1.1 and css2, are not only validated with the w3c but with extensive alterations in other ways so they can be processed on browsers not yet able to prossess xhtml+xml as xhtml+xml (i.e. Most if not all versions of Internet Explorer). Writing the codes, no less than appearances, is an art. An art I work on constantly to improve, so your website is done in the best available combination of both visual and functional art. Websites will be designed around your preferences and style, customized to reflect your tastes and your product. What I need from you is how you want your website to look. I then use this webdesign to make your websites template. I recommend that web sites be constructed as template sites for uniformity and ease of accessibility. Each website template is custom made from scratch to suit the tastes of it's owner and needs of the products. This wholesale clothing site is a good example of an xhtml11 template site. The link at the bottom of it is to a new site I am designing. I do rebuild old sites and I also will do touch ups to get your finished site listed (proven excellent results on both accounts). My prices are not as high as most I've seen while looking at my competition. And I don't feel at this time like raising my prices. What this means is, I can afford to be selective about who I build for. If you have a viable honest product and or service to offer the world, chances are I may build your site for you. I don't do sites with tons of pop-up windows, x-rated content, etc. I want your site not to just be good for you, but also your visitors and the whole Internet community. If your design needs don't fit with this objective, I won't build your web site. I want you to be as picky about your web designer as I am about who my customers are. My logo goes on the bottom of every page I do, I don't want it to be associated with less than top quality. If I feel you'd be best served by another designer (such as if you need ASP), I'll tell you. I'm not after your money so much, as I am after your business. I'm after and offering a mutually beneficial working experience. If I dont feel I can give excellent results for your investment, I'd rather recommend you so someone who can. Providing a low quality site, will do me more harm than good. So yes, I do have a selfish and personal motivation for only providing the best in state of the art webdesign. In the cases where I have not, they were low cost websites designed to help these customers get started on a tight budget. And it is my hope they succeed enough to upgrade their sites, so I can better demonstraight the guality I strive to provide. Below are offsite links, please use your browser back button to return. They are here to validate my dedication as a website designer to use state of the art and compliant codes. To make this and future websites a resource available to the widest audience and technologies possible, as free of errors as possible. If you know of some way for me to improve on this please drop me a line.
July 27, 2003: I have put on hold installing styles for automatic loading for different browsers and dynamic content for different settings tyrying instead to upgrade the style sheets to work in different browsers (non-w3c compliant). The style sheets that end in I.E. will not validate (CSS2) because the scrollbars and filter effects are not valid with the w3c.
Different browsers such as Mozilla firebird, Opera, IE Mac, support stylesheets differently thus the need to make different style sheets for them and other methods for consistant display on all platforms. The dynamic content will be to load credit for different backgrounds, such as for Joe Kneeland for the blue background and 2mass for the universal. As well as to insure no images are loaded for the text only version.
While I had this in place before, changes to the dynamic loading occured when new codes were installed, and I just need some time to install the fix for this bug (minor but I just have not had time yet). Part of the reason for the music and different styles, is not just for getter accessability (color blind etc.) but due to this prossess being very hard to do and still be valid XHTML1.1- I wanted to do what I have not seen done before. This uses no cookies, or javascript and is valid xhtml1.1 one of the strictest codes available but still backwards compatable for older browsers. (xhtml2.0 to my knowlegde, once complete by the w3c, will not be backwards compatable.) So, part of the purpose of this website is to demonstraight the use of very strict codes, without giving up on style, special multimedia effects and dynamic loading. And without sacrifice to search engine listings. Enjoy!
